About Pool Park Estate / Ynglŷn ag Ystâd Pool Parc
Pool Park estate is a tale of two inter-related families- one Welsh and one English: the Salesbury and Bagot Families. They owned the house and estate from the early seventeenth century to 1932, some 300 years.
In 1937, the North Wales Counties Mental Hospital acquired the property, seeking an additional site to accommodate surplus patients from the nearby Denbigh psychiatric hospital. Pool Park could house up to 87 patients at its full capacity, although during peak demand, the number reached as high as 120. Additionally, during a brief period in World War II, the premises were utilized as a prisoner of war camp.
As of 1990, Pool Park has remained vacant and has endured significant damage from vandalism, theft, and overall lack of care. The wooden floors and elaborate wood paneling have decayed as a result of water damage, with ceilings now leaking water and shedding plaster. Nevertheless, the magnificent entrance hall and staircase still stand, providing a genuine delight amid the debris.
Our primary aim for the Pool Park site is to sympathetically restore both the Manor House and the gardens to their former state and to preserve the wonderful history of this site so that generations may appreciate it for years to come.
